It’s the last day of school. Everyone has huge plans tonight after graduation. The excitement is overwhelming as the kids practically run from the school as the final bell rings. The possibilities of the coming night are endless, and everyone knows it. Things are changing for the young people of this small town…

The video for “Everything Changes” will follow a group of characters through their last day of school and into the coming night. There will be hook ups, fights, parties and classic high-school-memory-moments. We’ll get to know these characters as Staind performs the song at the out-door party where it will all go down. By dawn, we’ll have seen everyone’s story through to the next day.

The link above should be viewed as a sample of the vibe I want to create; the excitement and the changes that are taking place as school ends and everyone gets ready to go out, day turns to night, etc. (all this footage is from “DAZED & CONFUSED” & "ALMOST FAMOUS" …I don’t see this video as a period piece, but these films have the exact feel and story I’d like to tell). We follow a few inter-woven stories; nothing too heavy, just fun, partying, hooking up and adolescent antics. Overall, it should play out like “slice-of-life” scenes that take us through the entire night of these young people’s lives.

There are MANY possibilities with this story, but some of the scenes we’ll follow are:

Two different couples who see each other in the halls at school; they eventually hook up at the big out-door party later that night, after much chasing each other around town. We’ll portray them as young and innocent; it’s their first time in love, and they’re awkward but sweet…

In the hallways, as everyone’s leaving school, the nerdy JERRY is bumped into by a scrappy bully-type, named CLAY; they eventually meet up at the party, JERRY picking a fight with CLAY…

While all of these scenes are playing out, we’re constantly following the characters around this small town, meeting up with other friends, getting into trouble and eventually making it the party. STAIND is revealed at the party just as the first chorus crashes in. They’re our constant through-line for the video, creating a moving soundtrack for these young people’s lives.

A group of guys climb to the top of a tower on the outskirts of the party, watching the town in the distance, very contemplative (like the “moon-tower’ scene from Dazed & Confused)…

As the song winds down, and the sun starts to come up, we see each scene play out to the end: one of the couples who have hooked up innocently kiss at the front door, the other watch the sun rise from a hilltop…JERRY examines his fight wounds in the car mirror outside his house, smiling proudly. CLAY, the bully, lies face down on the ground with his friends trying to pick him up…

…And just as the sun peaks up over the hills in the distance, STAIND winds down the song. The air looks still and cool as everything begins to turn warm again…

FADE OUT
